St. Petersburg, Florida- The Texas Rangers shutout the Tampa Bay Ray 4-0 in game 1 of their 3-game wildcard series in Tampa Bay Monday.
Rangers left fielder Evan Carter became MLB’s youngest player, (21 years 35 days) to reach safely 4+ times in his post season debut. Carter was 2-for-2 and he walked twice.
Jordan Montgomery was the winning pitcher for Texas. Montgomery pitched 7 innings, striking out 5 and walking none. He also made a spectacular diving catch in the field.
“It wasn’t a soft landing was it. He’s a big fella and it was a nice play and great catch in a tight situation,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. ” It just shows you how competitive he (Jordan Montgomery) is and dive for that ball.”

Texas leads the series 1-game-to-none and they can win the series with a victory at Tampa Bay in game 2 Wednesday at Tropicana Field. First ptich for the Rangers at the Rays will be 2 p.m.
